There is immense power in storytelling and that is one thing students love to explore.

The art of storytelling when digitized is best presented with videos and so we have web tools that can help students and educators with the same. Digital storytelling is a literacy practice that can enhance kids’ literacy skills way beyond the traditional literacy forms. It enables students to express and communicate their thoughts in a multimodal way that involves images, sounds, videos and text. It also helps in developing creative and critical thinking skills making them skilled in expressing their thoughts.

Keeping all these benefits in kind we have created this list of apps that can help educators and students make the right pick for their digital storytelling needs.

The list comprises of digital storytelling apps meant for elementary students that will help you make beautiful digital stories on your Apple device.

Check it out:

1. Imagistory – Creative Storytelling App for Kids

This tool provides an entirely new reading experience. The tool is suitable for elementary kids as not only it is very fun and easy to use, it’s also highly educational! With this tool students can foster creativity, imagination and also develop language as well as early literacy skills. Imagistory: Schools Edition – Creative Storytelling lets kids record their voice as they narrate premade picture books. A simple guide introduces users to the two main activities in the app: narrate stories and review saved stories.

2. Sock Puppets

This is one interesting tool I came across. It lets you create your own lip-synched videos and share them on Facebook and YouTube. Add Puppets, props, scenery, and backgrounds and start creating. Hit the record button and the puppets automatically lip-synch to your voice. Why this is suitable for students is because students can collaborate and work together on stories or say do an animated play.

Friends can work together with multiple puppets and create hilarious conversations. The interface is such that while recording, simply tap a puppet and that puppet will lip-synch, tap a different puppet and switch auto lip-synching to it. Switch backgrounds to take your puppets to different places, move the puppets, props and scenery to animate them while recording. Cartoon and photo realistic puppets are included.

3. Book Creator

This is one go to tool for all the iOS users and if you’re one of them you must be aware of all the amazing things you can do with it. Book Creator for iPad empowers kids to use their imaginations for a fictional story or compile information on a nonfiction subject to create books. Plus, they’ll use critical-thinking skills as they brainstorm and make decisions about their books.  With guidance, even kids in primary schools can use this technology tool to produce and publish their own simple books or comics with images, videos, and audio.

4. Story Creator – Easy Story Book Maker

With Story Creator you can easily create beautiful story books containing photos, videos, text, and audio all in one gorgeous collection. Story Creator truly brings your best stories to life and easily allows you to retell and share your most memorable moments.

5. Little Story Maker

The tool allows to create visually appealing story books using images, text and audio. The app provides some gorgeous story book templates that user can use to embed their stories. You can also add your own photos and voice to make or tell your stories. Also the tool doesn’t limit you as you can create an unlimited number of personal stories. The only limit is the creativity.

Are there any other tools that you use for creating digital stories?
