LeapScholar has announced its latest collaboration with Michigan Technological University (MTU), a top STEM college and public research university in the United States. The firm has been on a mission to make world-class education more accessible and affordable for Indian students through its network of global university partnerships.

With this collaboration as a part of Leap Advantage, LeapScholar brings the College of Engineering’s prominent MS in Mechanical Engineering and the College of Computing’s highly regarded MS in Health Informatics to Indian students aspiring to earn a US degree in a hybrid format at a much lower cost.

Michigan Tech has a strong reputation for graduating highly skilled professionals who secure rewarding employment opportunities. The University’s students boast a 93% job placement rate after graduation, earning an average starting salary of $71,100. This is why Michigan Tech has recently been ranked as the 16th best public university in the US by the Wall Street Journal and has secured a position in the top 25 nationally for return on investment, as recognized by Forbes.

Commenting on the partnership, Vaibhav Singh, Co-founder of Leap, said:

The demand for STEM courses continues to rise among Indian students, owing to many promising career prospects they offer. We’re confident that this initiative will not only make education more accessible but also contribute to increased financial and academic benefits for those aspiring to pursue higher education in the US.

A portion of the courses’ curriculum will be delivered to students online in India, and the rest will be on campus in Houghton, Michigan. This hybrid format will effectively reduce the program’s total cost by almost INR 8 Lakhs. The requirement for GRE scores has been waived as a part of the eligibility criteria for the program. With a STEM degree, students will qualify for a 3-year post-study work visa upon graduation, just like full-time international students.

Michigan Technological University is a public research university with over 7,000 students representing 54 countries. The University, founded in 1885, offers over 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes in science and technology, engineering, forestry, business and economics, health professions, humanities, mathematics, and social sciences.

Will H. Cantrell, Associate Provost and dean of the Graduate School added:

Michigan Tech has a long tradition of welcoming international students, and we embrace the opportunity to partner with LEAP to offer unique opportunities to expand access to our programs. Students from across the globe are an exciting, vibrant piece of the Michigan Tech community, and this new partnership with LEAP will expand access to our programmes, making them more accessible for a new generation of students.

The fall session for Mechanical Engineering and Health Informatics starts on Monday, August 26, 2024. Applications for both programmes for Indian students are open. The application deadline is Friday, July 26, 2024.

LeapScholar was founded in 2019 as part of Leap, South Asia’s most extensive end-to-end study abroad platform, which also owns LeapFinance and Yocket. The startup, which has a thriving community of over 2 million students, pioneered the ‘platform way’ of end-to-end services for students pursuing international education and careers. Integrating colleges, universities, courses, and programmes on a single platform allows students to quickly find the best option and make decisions based on merit, counselling, and community advice. Access to IELTS coaching programmes is also available through the platform.
