Co-founded in 2018 by Vivek Kumar and Vardan Gandhi, Exampur offers over 200 test-prep courses for govt. jobs where most of the content is delivered through its YouTube channels for the UPSC, SSC, defence, banking, teaching and other state-level government jobs. Additionally, the platform provides online test series, free quizzes and live scholarship tests. It also has offline centers in cities like Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Meerut and Patna.

Commenting on the acquisition, President & Corporate Development of upGrad, Gaurav Kumar, said in a statement:

“We’ve created an integrated learning portfolio for our learners and within that matrix, we see test-prep as a high potential growth driver. I realize that it comes with a high customer acquisition cost, but it also delivers higher returns in terms of outcomes. Therefore, we wanted a partner with the right set of DNA within this space and Exampur seamlessly fits into our LifeLongLearning jigsaw.”

The startup claimed to have a subscriber base of over 12 million with an average viewership of 2.5 million students. 90 per cent of its paid users are from tier 2, 3 and 4 towns of India. Exampur hopes to reach INR 70 crore in revenue this fiscal.

Speaking about the company, Co-founders of Exampur, Vivek Kumar and Vardan Gandhi, said in a joint statement,

“The number of educated candidates in India is growing exponentially yet they are unemployed. Hence, we want our learners to walk that extra mile to understand the key to cracking such competitive exams. We look forward to making Exampur a household name and with upGrad, we see it reaching there really fast.”

upGrad is a pioneer in the online education revolution focused on powering career success for a global workforce of over 1.3 billion. It has a learner base of over 3 million across 100+ countries and more than 300 University partners, and a robust enterprise business with a client base of 1000 companies worldwide.

Last month, the Mumbai-based firm acquired New Delhi-based online learning platform Harappa Education for $38 million in a cash-and-share swap deal. With Exampur’s acquisition, upGrad has made five acquisitions this year, taking its total tally to ten deals till date, which include Rekrut, Work Better, Gate Academy, Impartus, KnowledgeHut, Global Study Partners, Talentedge, and INSOFE.
