Many of these apps are available in the form of educational games for a variety of subjects like Math, English, Science, etc. You should try to engage your kids with such apps more, as these offer more substance together with the elements of fun and play. It is a great chance for you to seize the opportunity to get your child interact with some great learning tools available on the iPad.

Math can be quite an intimidating subject for many children. They may find it challenging and difficult to cope up with. This is largely owing to how this subject is taught to them. There is a lot of creative thinking, which students should be made to indulge in, so that they’re able to solve the twisters and puzzlers that Math is all about. To get a grip on Math, children need to master the basics, and if this can be achieved through fun, then a lot of success is guaranteed. This article provides you with a list of 10 iPad apps for teaching elementary Mathematics, which you can try with your kids. These apps are particularly for young learners and combine fun and learning in such a way that makes learning Math an enjoyable experience for them. Here’s the list:

Free Protractor : Is an easy to use geometry app, which gives you access to a protractor. The angle on the protractor can be set by touching the pointer directly or by entering the angle on a keypad. There is also a lock feature to avoid accidental movement of the pointer while taking readings.

Number Pieces : It helps students develop deeper understanding of place value while building their computation skills with multi-digit numbers. Students use number pieces to represent multi-digit numbers, regroup, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Geometry Pad : Is a dynamic geometry application. With this you can create fundamental geometric shapes, explore and change their properties and calculate metrics. The shapes are displayed on a scrollable and zoomable workbook with a rectangular coordinate system.

MathTerms : Provides you with an illustrated glossary of Math terms in English and Spanish. The app includes almost 1,000 entries for middle and high-school mathematical concepts. Its glossary is colorful with annotated illustrations.

Marble Math : It is a fun and engaging way to practice and reinforce basic Math concepts to support classroom learning. You can solve a variety of Math problems by collecting numbers and bonuses as you navigate a series of mazes with your marble. Marble Math covers a variety of Math topics such as, Math operations, fractions, roman numerals, factoring, decimals, integers and more.

Math Champ : Is the latest educational game from the award winning, INKids Education, designed to strengthen the understanding of Common Core mathematical standards. This can also be used as a valuable assessment tool in the classroom or at home, since every player’s performance is recorded across all Common Core standards, allowing them to earn achievements and badges.

Math vs. Zombies : In a spooky theme, users are tasked with fighting off an invasion of cartoon zombies through solving simple Math equations. When a user inputs the correct answer, he can ‘zap’ a zombie, transforming it back into a regular kid. A series of incorrect answers causes players to both lose power in their zapper, as well as health. This game doesn’t contain any inappropriate content associated with the killing of zombies, users just return the zombies to their human form, and don’t kill them.

Ruler for iPad and iPhone : It can be used to measure the length of something under 9” (3” for iPhone). You can measure a small object in inches or centimeters. One of its special features is that it allows you to include the bezel of your device in your measurement, even allowing you to measure objects larger than your screen. You can also Email your measurements.

10monkeys : Is an app for students to learn and practice their multiplication skills. Students have to free the monkeys by correctly answering multiplication questions as quickly as possible. Students earn points for accuracy and speed. As they progress through the game they progress through the multiplication tables of two through ten. The last level mixes up problems from all of the previous levels.

Math Drills Lite : It is a graphically rich and fun game that allows students to learn the basic Math skills like, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, through Math drills. Students can explore solutions to problems using a variety of methods like, number lines, wooden blocks, facts and hints.

There are over 4000 iPad apps available just for Math in the iTunes. The iPad offers broader possibilities for learning and if used in the right and proper way it can be a great learning tool for our kids and students. I highly value the importance of this device in learning and strongly believe in its educational potential. Share with us your views on these apps and other similar iPad apps.
