The continuing education centre of IIT Roorkee was established in 1955 for the promotion of knowledge upgradation activity in the country by organizing refresher/specialist courses for in-service technical and professional persons from various Govt./Semi Govt. organizations, public and private undertakings, research institutions and industries. The centre conducts about 60 to 70 short-term courses (sponsored by different agencies/organizations) in continuing education every year in various management, engineering, science and technology disciplines. The professionals are trained in all parts of the country and neighbouring countries.
