New York, NY, Tuesday February 17, 2015 – Kaltura (www.kaltura.com), provider of the leading video technology platform, announced today that London-based ed-tech company Knowledgemotion has selected Kaltura’s video platform to power bo (www.boclips.com), a new video library for education.

Launched in January 2015, bo offers education publishers and providers easy access to up to three million rights-cleared, curriculum tagged video clips from content owners including Getty Images, Bloomberg, BBC Worldwide Learning and Associated Press Television News. bo has initially semantically matched clips to the primary and secondary school curriculum; with expansion into other learning areas following later in 2015.

Knowledgemotion chose Kaltura because of its considerable experience of working with customers in the media and education markets, two key areas for bo. The Kaltura platform’s scalability, flexibility, open architecture and integration with all the major LMSs (Learning Management Systems) were also key factors in the decision.

“Choosing Kaltura’s video platform to underpin bo was a straightforward decision,” said Knowledgemotion co-founder David Bainbridge. “We love the fact that Kaltura plays in both the media and education sectors and so really understands our business strategy and operations. The platform really is second to none in terms of flexibility, scalability, functionality and openness, making it ideal for us both now and for the foreseeable future.”

Kaltura’s video platform lets customers choose whether to use the functionality ‘as is’ in a set of out-of-the-box products, or customize the platform using a wide range of APIs and developer tools for ingestion, transcoding, management, metadata normalization and manipulation, syndication and distribution, cross-device delivery and publishing, monetization, engagement, and analytics. The platform features a fast-loading, cross-device video player that delivers high-quality video to mobiles, tablets, set-top boxes, and games consoles.

“bo’s vast content library has the potential to enrich student learning by helping publishers and providers to bring more curriculum-linked video content into classrooms. Letting students see video clips of the Curiosity landing on Mars in a science class or watch an interview with a famous author in an English class adds an important extra dimension to learning.  Furthermore, bo eliminates the need for education publishers and providers  to navigate the complex world of video rights. We share bo’s vision of democratizing video, and are incredibly excited about our involvement in this new service,” added Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Co-founder, Chairman and CEO.
