The round also witnessed participation from existing investor Better Capital along with GSV, Sapling Capital, and a host of well known individual investors including Gokul Rajaram, Rob Frohwein (cofounder Kabbage), Mate Pencz and Florian Hagenbuch (founders, Loft) and Ross Lipson (cofounder, Dutchie).

With the latest fundraise, the Gurugram-based startup plans to work for product development, expanding the team, tapping new categories, and scaling its tutor base across the country.

Co-founded by Imbesat Ahmad, Shadman Anwer and Rohit Kumar in 2020, Filo is the world’s fastest growing on-demand tutoring platform that connects students with India’s top 1% tutors in less than 60 seconds, any time during the day and night. Students get exclusive access to 1-1 personalised learning sessions through live video and voice calls. Every session is designed keeping in mind the learning capabilities and style of individual students.

With Filo, students can solve problems, clear concepts, prepare for school and competitive examinations, finish homework assignments, take private classes, solve mock tests, prepare notes and get mentorship from the best minds in the country. The company’s vision is to empowering students in taking complete control of their learning with the power of technology.

Commenting on the funding, Co-founder and CEO of Filo, Imbesat Ahmad, said,

“This round of funding will give exponential pace to an already hyper-growth trajectory of Filo and help us scale the tech and innovation opportunities. We are glad our investors share a similar vision for Filo as our leadership team. The combined strategic synergies will help us realize our mission to make the concept of ‘instant live tutoring’ a success worldwide.”

Filo is on a mission to democratise education and make quality learning accessible for every student around the world.

The startup claims to have more than 1.5 million downloads and over 350,000 monthly active users. In the next 12 months, the platform plans to onboard over 200,000 tutors across India and conduct 2 million live classes every day.

Annie Luchsinger, Investor, Anthos Capital, added:

“We are excited about Filo because of their unique value proposition to students that has resulted in rapid traction and outstanding customer advocacy. Their ability to effectively and seamlessly match teachers and students in a matter of seconds we believe to be unmatched in the market today and is a use case that can extend globally. We’re thrilled to partner with Imbesat and the Filo team.”

Filo had earlier raised a pre-seed round at the idea stage and then a $2 million seed round in September 2021, both from Better Capital.
