Piramal Group has recently announced the launch of the Piramal School of Leadership (PSL) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, under the aegis of the Piramal Foundation, the group’s philanthropic arm. The laying of the foundation stone marks the commencement of a facility that will initially house five specialized schools and will be capable of accommodating and training over 150,000 middle managers from state and government agencies, as well as professionals from CSR initiatives and non-profit organizations, annually.

The foundation stone was laid by Mr Ajay Piramal, Chairman of Piramal Group, Dr Swati Piramal, Vice Chairperson of Piramal Group and Mr Aditya Natraj, CEO of Piramal Foundation, in the presence of over 1000 people, including senior Government officials, youth and women changemakers from the Foundation, and a cross spectrum of business and thought leaders.

The School of Leadership, spanning 32 acres, is expected to begin operations by December 2025. Five specialized schools will be on the campus, imparting learning across crucial development sectors aligning closely with government initiatives. The five schools include the School of Education and Systems Change, School of Health, School of Climate and Sustainability, School of Justice, and School of Inclusion.

Speaking about the development, the Chairman of Piramal Group, Ajay Piramal, said:

As we lay the foundation stone of the Piramal School of Leadership today, we are building an institution and nurturing a vision for India’s future. This School manifests our belief in the transformative power of leadership rooted in Sewa Bhaav. Here, we will cultivate leaders who are skilled and deeply committed to the ethos of selfless service. We aim to empower these leaders to drive positive change, fostering an equitable, progressive, and resilient society. We embark on this journey to shape a stronger, more prosperous India.

The School of Education and Systems Change has been at the forefront of instilling ‘Sewa Bhaav’, pioneering the transformation of educational systems by emphasizing the concept that personal change drives systemic change through the Piramal School of Leadership Campus at Bagar, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. Through the new Campus at Jaipur, PSL will be able to foster a more extensive network of dedicated government leaders devoted to enhancing service delivery and providing domain-specific functional training.

The School of Health will be dedicated to revolutionizing public health systems by actively assisting governments in implementing the National Health Mission through initiatives that enhance public health and medical training and quality measures to improve facilities and the overall standard of care for population health.

The School of Climate and Sustainability will specialize in imparting learning on enhancing water security and promoting sustainable practices.

The School of Justice will endeavour to improve the legal system through digitalization and grassroots initiatives.

Lastly, the School of Inclusion concentrates on mainstreaming inclusivity, especially for Persons with Disabilities, by equipping institutions to provide integrated education and livelihood training.

These schools collectively embody a synergistic approach, integrating personal transformation with organizational strengthening, to empower government middle-level leaders.

Aditya Natraj, CEO of Piramal Foundation, added:

Piramal School of Leadership is poised to redefine the landscape of public systems leadership in India. India has nearly 30 million public officials but needs more institutions focusing on mid-level government leadership. We aim to build a landmark institution that will inspire the spirit of innovation and agility required to realize the vision of a developed India, where every leader contributes to the nation’s journey towards excellence and equity.

Upon completion, PSL Jaipur will symbolize a distinctive, down-to-earth, and inspirational learning environment, purposefully crafted to inspire joy and vibrancy through unexpected and interactive spaces, fostering self-reflection and transformative experiences. The School will also target youth leadership development through its Gandhi Fellowship programme and women’s leadership development via the Karuna Fellowship initiative. Furthermore, it will serve social sector partners for capacity building and social entrepreneurs, guiding them to impact millions of lives. Corporate sector professionals will also have opportunities to engage and contribute to public life through programmes at PSL.

PSL, founded on the principle of personal transformation leading to system transformation, aims to assist India’s 30 million public officials, especially middle managers, to enhance the service delivery of various government programmes and initiatives. It is one of Piramal Foundation’s Four Big Bets, a testament to their commitment to nurturing transformative leadership.

The Piramal Foundation, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, is dedicated to improving marginalized communities’ lives by leveraging youth’s power and strengthening government systems. Over the last 16 years, it has touched the lives of more than 11.3 crore Indians through operations supported by 5000+ employees spread across 27 States and 2 Union Territories.
