Money related matters are always personal or extended within family. But with the growing challenging financial circumstances created by the recession, it is important to schools to introduction financial literacy in the curriculum.  There are myriad reasons to educate students about money.

They are Young, They Don’t Know Enough: Studies show that most of the young people know little about economics and finance. They are borrowing and spending without knowing much about money management.

Kids Start Saving Later: It happens rarely that a student starts his stable career in 30’s. A lot of students take time in their school. If they learn about the relevance of saving and investing in their school time then it will encourage them in the future.

They have more Debt Choices: Federal Reserve report says in 2008 around 53,000 student credit card accounts was released. Various agreements between students, bank and colleges have made it easy to get debt. Therefore, it is important for a student to know how to manage debt.

Temptations: Internet age is very tempting. Spend few minutes on Internet and kids can find a lot of their favourite things. Online shopping is making easy. They can easily buy anything they wish.

Bringing financial literacy in the classroom can be fun with Tooniie Land – a game for financial education.

Tooniie Land is a game in which player plays in a peaceful world where they have to help the King to restore wealth to the island called “Tooniie Land”. With this game, players will become acquainted with ideas related to:

  • Mutual aid
  • Saving
  • Debt
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Ethics
  • Consumption

How to Play?

Initially, players should be aware of the King’s diverse weekly missions. After that they pick a boat to navigate to the chosen islands. Players have to follow the budget while managing the craft. The budget will help them to carry-out their different journeys. Every week (on Thursday), players will get a virtual money. They have to manage their journey or trip with their virtual salary. In the game, they will become acquainted with ideas concerning to budgeting, taxation, and loans.

Tooniie Land will be available on iPhones, iPads, Android devices, PCs, and laptops. Managing personal finance is important and in this era, it is important for every student to know this art. It will secure their future financially.
