IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has announced a partnership with Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd to equip engineering college students with industry-ready technical skills. As per the statement, the training will be given in select disciplines such as AI/ML, Product Security, and Computer Graphics. The programme is free of cost, and students will be provided stipends based on fixed criteria. The students will be selected (about 30) by the IIT-M Pravartak and Sony India for the Finishing School Training Programme.

The training programme’s second batch is scheduled to start in the third week of January 2024. The application deadline is January 10, 2024. Applicants can visit the official website at sonyfs.pravartak.org.in for more information.

IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation is a Section 8 Company housing a Technology Innovation Hub on Sensors, Networking, Actuators and Control Systems. It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems and hosted by IIT Madras. The Institute gladly accepts the responsibility of bringing the next generation of cutting-edge technologies to young India. Technology development, entrepreneurship development, human resource development, and international collaboration are among IITM Pravartak’s main initiatives. This creates an ecosystem that allows basic research to be turned into products, bringing together academia, business, government, and international organizations.

Balamurali Shankar, General Manager, Digital Skills Academy – IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, highlighted the importance of this initiative, said:

This programme was offered in 2023 in similar technologies. Most students were placed in top IT/ITES organizations and start-ups. We plan to extend this programme in 2024, aiming to benefit deserving learners nationwide. This initiative aims to propel them forward in their chosen career paths by addressing the gap between the knowledge and skills of graduate students and the industry’s demands.

The eligibility criteria to apply are:

  • Applicants should have an Engineering degree in ECE, CSE & EEE degree (only) with a minimum 60% aggregate.
  • The training is for the students who passed out in 2021-2022 and 2022-23. A stipend will also be offered to eligible students.
  • The selection will be based on criteria such as Academic performance, Parental Income, and the student’s performance in an entrance exam on aptitude/analytical test followed by an interview.
  • Entrance Examinations will be conducted at Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra centres.
  • The total number of students selected will be restricted to 30 only.
  • All interested students should register themselves to get a notification regarding the written test/interview.

At the end of the programme, Sony India will induct a few top performers following their due process. IITM Pravartak will assist the remaining students with placement in other companies by arranging for their interviews through the IITM Pravartak placement cell. These companies might offer these students full-time jobs based on their performance.

Established in 1997, Sony India Software Centre (SISC) is a subsidiary of Sony India. This organization was founded as Sony India Software Centre Private Limited (SISCPL) in 2012 and became a distinct legal entity. The primary purpose of this organization’s establishment was to provide top-notch services in information security, enterprise application development and support, and embedded software development. Since its inception, it evolved into a very advanced Global Capability Center that offers high-end services and comprehensive technology solutions to Sony’s international business groups.
