BMJ, a healthcare knowledge provider, has recently launched an innovative new exam preparation tool driven entirely by artificial intelligence. The new tool, which supports candidates taking the PACES exam, allows them to interact in real-time with a range of simulated patients by speaking into their computers. Developed in collaboration with Australian start-up SimConverse, the app offers doctors a convenient option, reducing their stress and empowering them with a more affordable and less time-consuming solution than those currently on the market.

The new product allows candidates to practise their consultation and communication skills, then tests their ability to distil their findings and generate a diagnosis and differentials. What sets it apart is the detailed feedback given in every attempt, providing a supportive and guiding hand to candidates, helping them understand their strengths and weaknesses and how to improve. Users who have tested the product have praised its similarity to real life, its lack of glitches, and the granularity of its feedback.

Speaking about the newly introduced platform, Director of BMJ Careers Phil Johnson said:

We’re excited to empower doctors with a revolutionary solution that addresses the limitations of traditional exam preparation methods. BMJ OnExam PACES provides a cost-effective and convenient way for doctors to excel in their MRCP PACES exams, ultimately enhancing patient care.

BMJ OnExam PACES is the first AI-driven revision product for the OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) element of a postgraduate medical qualification, and similar tools for other specialities are on the way. Developed with SimConverse, it combines BMJ’s medical expertise with cutting-edge AI.

As a values-driven company and global brand, BMJ works toward its vision for ‘a healthier world.’ The platform does this by partnering with more than 11,000 medical organisations worldwide to provide their users with the best available resources. The company makes its content available in 20 languages and creates evidence-based subscription-based products to help clinicians better tackle today’s most critical healthcare challenges. It is inspiring to see the rapid growth of students and qualified doctors around the globe progressing in their careers and achieving accreditation with its e-learning modules and events. Its expertise extends from publishing and medical education to clinical decision support and events to enhance day-to-day decision-making and healthcare delivery. Whilst its focus remains unchanged, BMJ continuously adapts to the changing research landscape by remaining innovative and competitive.
