The prestigious All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently unveiled the ‘Young Achievers Scholarship and Holistic Academic Skills Venture Initiative (YASHASVI) scheme 2024’. This esteemed initiative has been designed for Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering (CCEEM) degree and diploma students. The YASHASVI scheme was inaugurated by AICTE chairman TG Sitharam, with Vice Chairman Abhay Jere and member secretary Rajive Kumar also gracing the event with their presence.

According to a press release from the AICTE, Professor Sitharam underscored the scheme’s objective to promote core engineering branches during the launch event. He highlighted these disciplines’ crucial role in advancing manufacturing industries and emphasized the importance of supporting students in these fields through scholarships and academic initiatives. He remarked that the YASHASVI initiative aims to help high-achieving students pursue technical education in crucial branches of engineering such as civil, chemical, electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering. The scholarship programme incentivizes talented students to enrol in these disciplines at AICTE-approved technical institutions.

Highlighting the pivotal role of core engineering sectors in India’s development, he expressed that these disciplines hold significant potential to elevate India’s stature as a global technology leader. AICTE’s ongoing efforts focus on enhancing the quality of core engineering education and expanding opportunities for students in these fields. The Chairman praised the Council’s initiatives to strengthen core engineering education and to improve student employment prospects, emphasizing the importance of such endeavours in driving India’s technological advancement and industrial growth.

The YASHASVI scheme, a boon for aspiring engineers, will annually support 5,000 students, with 2,500 scholarships for degree students and 2,500 for diploma students. Degree students will receive a substantial Rs 18,000 per year for up to four years, while diploma students will be granted Rs 12,000 per year for up to three years. These scholarships will be disbursed directly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring a hassle-free process, as stated by AICTE.

The YASHASVI scholarship, a mark of academic excellence, is merit-based. Degree-level students are selected based on their outstanding 12th-grade qualifications, while diploma-level students are chosen based on their exceptional 10th-grade results. To maintain the scholarship annually, students must submit their passing certificate or mark sheet and a letter from the head of their institution, ensuring a continuous commitment to excellence.

Applications for the YASHASVI scholarship will be invited once a year. Once the application process commences, eligible candidates must apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Interested individuals are advised to visit the AICTE website for further details and application procedures.

As a national Apex Advisory Body, the All India Council for Technical Education was founded in November 1945 to review technical education infrastructure and advance integrated, coordinated growth across the nation. The institution is in charge of organizing, creating, and implementing norms and standards; ensuring quality control through accreditation, observation, and assessment; providing certification and award parity; and ensuring the coordinated and integrated development and administration of technical education throughout the nation.
