The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) Pravartak Technologies Foundation has collaborated with SWAYAM Plus to introduce a new initiative to equip Engineering and Science students with electronics backgrounds with industry-ready technical skills.

According to an official statement, the initiative, which will span 11 days, will be taught at IIT Madras and focus on the semiconductor industry. It will also provide placement assistance to participants who excel in the programme. The training programme will take place from October 7 to 18, with the last application date being October 3. Eligibility for the programme is limited to Engineering, Diploma, or Science students and graduates with an electronics background.

The programme will be conducted physically (a classroom-based hands-on training programme) at the IIT Madras campus and will focus on the Semiconductor Industry. The course fee is Rs 15,000 plus GST. Accommodation will be available at the IIT Madras campus for Rs 650 per day, including food and lodging, with requests to be submitted on or before October 3.

The course will cover various aspects such as PCB Assembly, solder paste basics, stencil basics, solder paste printing, PCBA pick and place systems, SMT reflow soldering, PCBA inspection systems, an overview of power electronic components, DC to DC power converters, AC to DC power converters, DC to AC inverters, PWM basics, embedded system design with STM 32 microcontroller, configuring GPIO ports, PWM generation, ADC and DAC interface, LCD interface, and servo and stepper motor interfaces using STM 32, the statement further added.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras, said:

We are committed to impart skilling for upcoming graduates to enable them for jobs. This initiative is to provide a comprehensive training experience that prepares participants to deliver exceptional skills in the semiconductor industry. This programme will equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to handle various technical and customer service issues efficiently and effectively.

Placement aid will be offered to those students who succeed in the programme. Pravartak will choose students ready for industry-ready skills for the training programme. The training course will be held on the campus of IIT Madras. CEC IIT Madras will help final-year students get employment and connect them with top electronics manufacturing companies. Candidates who wish to apply for the training programme should be students or graduates with engineering/diploma/science degrees and a background in electronics. Interested applicants can register through the official IIT Madras Pravartak website.

Following are the features of the programme.

  • Industry-relevant curriculum: Designed in collaboration with leading Industry experts to deliver hands-on in the latest technology & processes in Electronics manufacturing.
  • Placement support: CEC IIT Madras will provide placement assistance and connect final-year students with leading electronics manufacturing companies.
  • Bridge the skill gap: The programme aims to meet the growing demand for qualified electronics manufacturing service (EMS) professionals.

SWAYAM Plus is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and IIT Madras, launched by the National Education Policy’s (NEP 2020) emphasis on promoting and fostering employability-focused, skill-building courses. It aims to develop employable skills among graduates from sectors important to India’s growth and align industry skills with academic courses, thereby bridging the gap.
