The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and the Government of Maharashtra through its Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai, signed a memorandum of understanding in New Delhi.

Shri. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon. Minister, Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India and Shri. Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, Hon. Minister, Higher &Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, were present during this occasion. Dr Vinod Mohitkar, Director, Technical Education, M.S., Dr Pramod Naik, Director, Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi, DG, NIELIT, Sh. Abhishek Singh, Addl. Secretary MeitY and various officials from the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology were also present to discuss this.

This MOU aims to establish a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (Al), Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, 3D Printing, and Allied Technologies for capacity training and R&D centres at Government polytechnics and Engineering colleges in Maharashtra State. Through a joint proposal, it also seeks funding from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and other government organizations.

Following the establishment of the Center of Excellence, NIELIT, with its proven track record, will spearhead the delivery of training & learning activities for the faculty and students in collaboration with industries. It will develop relevant credit course contents, provide placement assistance for employment to the students, and ensure the Center of Excellence is maintained in top condition.

The government of Maharashtra has 40 Government polytechnics in the State. Through the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, the government has established Centers of Excellence in loT at 6 Government polytechnics and Centers of Excellence in Robotics and Automation at 3 Government polytechnics. Centers of Excellence will be established at the remaining government polytechnics through the funds made available through this MoU.

NIELIT’s mission is to be the single source of quality assurance in computer education among the nation’s non-formal institutes. After attracting large numbers of competent IT professionals, the platform’s reach is now being extended to all regions of the country as well as overseas. The institution is engaged in both Formal & Non-Formal Education in the area of IECT, besides the development of industry-oriented quality education and training programmes in state-of-the-art areas. It has endeavoured to establish standards to be the country’s premier institution for Examination and Certification in the field of IECT.
