One of the highlights of this year’s expo is ‘student voice’ where students will take the centre stage to share their innovations and insights about the future learning.

Over 60 students (aged 10-15) across the region will gather at EduTECH Asia 2018 Expo, to compete in the inaugural EduBUILD Masters Hackathon, creating education learning spaces for kids by kids. The key focus for the hackathon is to address a real-world problem that the students face in their existing learning spaces. The ten teams are from both government and international schools, homeschoolers, as well as social welfare organisations.

The goal of the hackathon is to provide a platform where children are encouraged to actively explore problems within existing classroom structures, and design solutions for future classrooms with a focus on inclusiveness, learning effectiveness, and creative stimulus. Following a 6-week preparation process, the teams will showcase their final hacks that incorporate architectural design concepts and emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence / machine learning, robotics, and 3D to senior educators and education professionals attending EduTECH Asia 2018. Curriculum development and program curation was led by the team from It Takes An Island and supported by Design Singapore and JTC.

“With student voice being the focus of many schools today, we at EduTECH Asia, are excited to give students a platform to inspire and interact with educators, giving new ideas and perspectives. The Hackathon also gives them a fantastic opportunity to polish their leadership, creative thinking and collaborative skills, which are deemed as top skillsets required for the future workforce,” says Ms Sharon Roessen, Managing Director, Asia, Terrapinn Pte Ltd, organiser of EduTECH Asia.

Furthermore, Singapore’s Info-communications Media Development Authority will be having a Digital Maker showcase of some of the most innovative projects within the IMDA Zone at EduTECH Asia. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with teachers and students the Digital Maker Schools and learn more about how digital making has been infused in their lessons and schools’ programmes.

The expo will also feature 6 other activity areas including a Robotics Zone, an Entrepreneurship Village and an exhibition of the latest edtech technologies by 80+ leading industry players including Lenovo, Wacom, Crestron, Ricoh, D2L, Moodle, Me3D and more. Attendees will benefit in hearing from exhibitors and industry experts on the latest cutting-edge technologies. Over 100 educators from different institutions and subject areas will be sharing best practices, practical innovations and personal insights into teaching with technology at #teachtechtalks for educators by educators.

Running alongside the expo, is also a premium conference featuring more than 200 notable speakers in the industry share their insights and knowledge on the future of education in the region. Speakers include Ken Montgomery, Executive Director of Design Tech High and Pramod Tripathi, Associate Director of Schools, Global Indian International School, Singapore and more.

The event will take place at Singapore’s Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre from 9-10 October. Admission into the expo is free for all.
