A learning management system (LMS) is a software application employed by educators to create and deliver learning content, monitor student participation, and assess student performance. As education adopts digital textbooks, adaptive learning and the flipped classroom approach, use of an LMS gains more importance.

Traditional LMS programs, with their rigid static architecture, were primarily used for the distribution of educational content. However, given the little or no flexibility offered to educators and end users, their adoption has been limited. On the other hand, educators required substantial amount of training to be able to have a full understanding of the functions of those traditional LMS applications.

In today’s digital age, there is a lot of information around us and with the proliferation of social networks, there is a social component to learning. This calls for moving the traditional LMS model from the static one-way flow of knowledge to the next generation LMS which should be dynamic, collaborative and easy-to-use, where users contribute and share their knowledge.

For those unfamiliar, Easyclass.com is one of the recent examples of next-gen LMS solutions by providing a collaborative learning platform that allows schools to integrate online education, classroom management, and social networking through a user-friendly interface. The website offers interactive features such as discussion forums and extends the classroom to a safe and engaging online environment. Another advantage of this cloud-based solution is that all the tools available on the website are for FREE.

Launched in September 2013, Easyclass has seen its LMS adopted by 500 universities, colleges and schools across Europe, serving over 220 thousand educators and students in such a short period of time. The platform can be considered truly European as shareholders of the Company are British, Swiss and Turkish and the developers of the software are Italian, Hungarian and Romanian.
