Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N) has announced a strategic collaboration with Ivey Publishing, the world’s second-largest producer of management case studies, to enhance educators’ and students’ writing skills and research. This partnership will empower IIM-N and its affiliates to create high-quality case studies that address real-world business challenges and provide valuable learning experiences to management students across India.

One of this association’s most significant outcomes is the opportunity it provides for IIM-N’s partner institutions. The institute will advise other management schools in India and help them establish their case studies. According to Metri, premium case studies from Ivey Publishing will be available at a reduced cost to these institutions, making high-quality academic resources available to a broader range of students and educators.

IIM-N becomes the third IIM to establish a case centre, following IIM-Bengaluru and IIM-Ahmedabad. This initiative is setting a precedent for other institutions across India to follow suit. It aims to enrich the case study methodology, which is regarded as one of the most effective teaching tools in business education.

At a press conference, IIM-N Director Bhimaraya Metri stated that this relationship will play an essential role in preparing case studies that reflect the needs of enterprises in the Mihan region and beyond. Once published by the IIM-N Case Centre, these case studies will include the institute’s logo, providing global exposure to IIM-N academics and contributing to the institution’s academic reputation.

As part of this initiative, IIM-Nagpur plans to collaborate with business schools across India, offering them a platform to develop and publish their case studies. The institute is set to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with tier-II B schools, providing support for case writing and teaching. This will enable these institutions to publish original cases without needing external payments, reducing the financial burden on institutions that may struggle with the high costs of procuring case studies from international sources.

Metri further emphasized that this initiative will significantly benefit over 3,500 business schools and university management departments in India. Many of these find it challenging to afford the costs of accessing case studies from prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School. As Metri pointed out, top business schools in India collectively spend Rs 200 crore annually on purchasing case studies, which limits access for smaller institutions.

By leveraging Ivey Publishing’s established reputation, IIM-N aims to enhance the quality and relevance of the case studies it produces. Students will benefit from being able to analyze cases based on local businesses, creating a unique learning experience. The institute envisions engaging CEOs from neighbouring companies to visit and elaborate on specific cases, fostering active learning and practical insights.

He highlighted that this approach will directly connect students with local business challenges, helping them bridge the gap between theory and implementation. The case study methodology remains one of the most effective ways for students to learn, as it allows them to immerse themselves in real-world scenarios and develop critical thinking skills, Metri added.

The alliance between IIM-Nagpur and Ivey Publishing represents a significant turning point in the Indian management education scene. IIM-N aims to democratize access to essential resources for business schools nationwide by providing subsidized access to high-quality case studies and case writing assistance and promoting local business concerns as teaching tools. This initiative will not only improve students’ learning experiences. Still, it will also build a new generation of business leaders ready to negotiate the complexities of today’s corporate environments.

As IIM-N continues to expand its network and foster partnerships with business schools across India, it is poised to become a key player in transforming how business education is delivered in the country.
