Are you one of those aspirants possessing the key elements to handle a child such as patience, perseverance, and love for children? If the answer to any one of the questions is yes, then drafting a career in teaching for the pre and primary segment of education will certainly be your dream job and as well as be the best option for you and your professional life. Pre and primary education has evolved since its initial days and has become more learners friendly where the attention is more on the learners than on the educator/teacher. Becoming a teacher for the pre and primary section in today’s time will certainly be quite exciting, fun and challenging as well.

Objectives of pre and primary education

Today’s pre and primary education focuses both on the pre-primary and primary section of education starting from pre-school till the fifth standard. A pre and primary training is a rigorous training process for aspiring teachers that ensures that the aspirants get a thorough idea on the holistic approach of teaching children belonging from 2 to 12 years of age. Modern training methodologies comprise of getting acquainted with the latest methodologies and approaches to ensuring the learner’s all round development which include physical and emotional development, social development, and educational development. The training also focuses on making the learner gain knowledge and skills on the ways of communication and expression, developing drawing and writing skills, developing social skills and study habits, aesthetic sense, and co-operative attitude among themselves, identifying objects and faces of people and many more.

Since pre and primary age is the most important and defining period of an individual’s life, hence the introduction to education must be gradual and kept in a non-formal and learner friendly way as much is possible. Also during this period the child is quite active, creative, more energetic and filled with curiosity; hence the learning activities in the class must be able to create the interest and hold their attention throughout the class. Also the modern pre and primary education system gives much importance to the role of parents, with whom the child spends considerable part of his life; therefore schools also involve parents in the education of the child.

Teacher’s role in a pre-primary student’s life

In the preschool, the children learn various new things from their teachers, hence they need the correct direction of guidance and help, support and motivation/encouragement from them that will enable the learners to realize their potential and become a responsible person, in their adulthood. Pre and primary teacher trainings aim to train the candidates with such expertise so that they are able to instill confidence within the child who is able to fulfill their own needs and become strong and individual adults.

The teacher is present to help the child realize his/her potential and unfold them gradually so that they are able to develop their uniqueness and individuality. The purpose of education in a learner’s life at this stage is also helping prepare him/her towards further learning and education and his contribution towards society.
