The study outlines the most popular skill courses, with Web Development leading the pack at 16% of course enrollments, followed by Digital Marketing and Python Programming at 8% each. These were followed by Advanced Excel (5%), Data Science (4%), and Machine Learning (4%). These statistics show students’ various interests in engineering, programming, business development, and data science.

Following are the key learnings from the 2023 e-learning trends:

Online Training to Secure Internships

In 2023, nearly half (49%) of the students stated the primary reason for pursuing online training was to secure internships and future job opportunities. Another considerable proportion, 32%, sought to learn new skills, while 11% sought certification training. The remaining students enrolled in the courses to further their personal development and fulfil college requirements.

Online Educational Requirements

Completing a self-paced online training demands dedication, effective time management, and a genuine quest for knowledge, resulting in a commendable 51% completion rate in 2023. Learners spent an average of 43 minutes daily on their online training modules.

Trends of Online Skill Training

The growing popularity of online skill training is not restricted to one gender, as shown by the enrollment numbers, which suggest that 57% of male and 43% of female students are actively engaging in these courses.

Leveraging Online Education in Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cities

A notable finding from the 2023 e-learning trends is that 61.6% of learners came from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, outnumbering 38.4% from tier 1 cities. This change demonstrates how students from smaller towns utilize online education to improve their skill sets, increasing their prospects in a competitive employment market. Among the key cities contributing to this increase are Delhi (7%), Hyderabad (6%), Bangalore (5%), Pune (4%), Mumbai (4%), Kolkata (3%), and Chennai (2%).

Commenting on the trends, Shadab Alam, Head of Internshala Trainings, stated:

The evolving landscape of technology is reshaping industries, leading to a preference for skill-based hiring. Organizations are increasingly valuing practical skills over traditional degrees. Recognizing this shift, students actively pursue online courses as a convenient and affordable means to acquire high-in-demand skills with up-to-date content. This substantial increase in students pursuing online certification courses highlights that students understand the current needs of the job market and are skilling to improve their employability.
