Part-Two of the Core’s visit to George Stephenson High School in Newcastle focuses on the educator who has breathed life into Sugata Mitra’s dream of a School-in-the Cloud. Amy-Leigh Dickinson, Curriculum Leader: Design, reached out to Professor Mitra and shared her interest in his work.

They became fast friends and colleagues as Mitra, Dickinson and GSHS celebrated the grand opening last November.

Amy was kind enough to sit down with us to discuss the beginnings of the School-in-the-Cloud, her perspective on technology in education and the role educators can play in a young person’s life. She was kind enough to conduct a lesson inside the Cloud with students who had yet to experience this unique classroom. We touch on this experience and on topics including teacher preparation, professional development, respecting the culture of teaching and her work with the charity “Dress A Girl Around the World.”

I think you will find Amy’s humility and passion refreshing as she not only discusses hot topics in education, but explores her own experiences as a student and teacher and the impact those lessons have on her today. The Core looks forward to connecting Amy’s class with others from around the world. We hope all of you will want to partake in these global learning initiatives.

Cheers!
