The startup plans to use the fresh capital to further grow its team and to expand abroad.

Founded in 2015 by Kars Veling, Janneke Plaisier and Martin Kool, LessonUp was launched with an ambition to help teachers and schools in their move towards digital education. It provides digital teaching and learning resources for teachers in primary and secondary education. In just over the course of two years, the platform has compiled a collection of more than 250,000 free lessons – created by teachers, publishers, museums and non-profits – which can be used in class directly.

LessonUp is the largest digital teaching and learning platform in the Netherlands today. Since founding, around 65,000 teachers have embraced the platform and integrated it in their daily routine. With LessonUp, teachers can create or arrange lessons quickly and use them directly in the classroom. They can also find thousands of lessons for all subjects from the LessonUp library. Teachers can also use different work forms like slides, images, videos, quizzes, open questions, drag questions and word web to make lessons even more exciting and interactive.

Highlighting the need to offer the best resources to every child, Kars Veling, CTO and Co-founder of LessonUp, said,

“Internet technology gives us the opportunity to offer the best resources from the best teachers to every child. Who doesn’t remember that teacher who always had a unique way and made things easier and more fun in class. Those lessons, we want them to become available not only to this teacher’s 30 students, but to 3,000 or even 300,000 students.”

The co-founder added saying,

“When we started LessonUp, we mainly tried to solve the problem that it takes a serious amount of time to develop a fun and interactive lesson. Our solution was simple: we created a place where teachers could find inspiration and resources from colleagues everywhere, instead of reinventing the wheel over and over again.”

Not just teachers, institutions/companies also benefit from LessonUp platform. Through the platform, they get their digital learning resources reach teachers and students who they are not likely to reach through their own website.

Lauding the company, Stefan Bary of Peak Capital said,

“We are very much impressed with the position LessonUp has managed to build in the education technology market. With 65,000 teachers and 200,000 students on board, the company shows that it can bring digitization into the classroom. With more than 250,000 lessons available in the platform, teachers can get started in their classrooms right away.”

LessonUp aims to collect all the outstanding educational content that’s developed everywhere worldwide and make it widely available to everyone.

No more a student, but love to learn. Not a teacher, but care about how students are taught. Not an educator, but want everyone to be educated. Not a social worker, but desire to see change. Not a reformer, but always want to see a better world. The author believes that only sound education can bring a better future, better world and technology can help achieve a lot in this field.
