Dakar Academy Central, a prestigious international school in Senegal, West Africa, has formed a new cooperation with global educational technology pioneer Discovery Education. This agreement aims to provide Dakar Academy teachers access to award-winning digital tools that will prepare students for the future while nurturing their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Dakar Academy, founded in 1961 as Dakar’s first international and Christian school, is a global, college-preparatory school that educates students from Pre-K to 12th grade following a North American curriculum. The academy, located on considerable premises in Hann Maristes, serves 285 students from over 50 different nations, with the aim of producing well-rounded students prepared for university-level study. Its team sought compelling digital materials to improve scientific instruction and establish a complete STEM programme to help prepare students for life beyond school.

Speaking about the development, Robb Warfield, Superintendent of DA Schools, said:

At Dakar Academy, we aim to equip every child with the necessary life skills for adulthood and support their growth in knowledge and faith. These new state-of-the-art digital science resources from Discovery Education will encourage our students to explore the world around them, preparing them for life after graduation. We eagerly anticipate integrating these powerful resources into our STEM lessons across the school.

In addition to this collaborative effort, all Dakar Academy educators who use Discovery Education’s Science Techbook will receive personalized professional development from Discovery Education’s professional learning experts. These learning opportunities help schools maximize their EdTech investment by empowering teachers with best practices for integrating digital resources into instruction, increasing student engagement and supporting academic development. Furthermore, the Dakar Academy educators gain access to the Discovery Education Network, a global community of education professionals facilitating idea sharing and inspiration through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events.

The Discovery Education Science Techbook series offers a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12. Utilized in classrooms globally, the Science TechBooks foster engagement with exclusive, phenomena-based, interactive digital content alongside companion printed resources. Featuring virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and instructional supports, Techbook enhances impactful, blended instruction, whether in-person or at a distance. Coordinated teacher guides accompanying the Science TechBooks provide unit, concept, lesson overviews, standards connections, and differentiation activities to inform instructional planning and facilitate three-dimensional learning.

Andy Walls, International Education Consultant at Discovery Education, added:

Discovery Education is delighted to partner with Dakar Academy. This collaboration represents our first in Senegal, and we are excited to expand our presence in this vibrant and diverse country. Dakar Academy’s investment in dependable, dynamic digital resources and professional learning will create powerful learning experiences for every student, helping them meet their goals and prepare for future careers.

Discovery Education enables educators to provide equitable learning experiences that engage all students and promote higher academic achievement on a global scale. The platform serves approximately 4.5 million educators and 45 million students worldwide, with resources available in over 100 countries and territories. The company, founded by the worldwide media corporation Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., works with districts, states, and trustworthy organizations to provide teachers with cutting-edge EdTech solutions that support all learners’ achievement.
