The Indian School of Business (ISB) Online, in collaboration with Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), has launched a groundbreaking credit-based programme focusing on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). This initiative aims to enhance the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of CNLU students starting from the 2024-25 academic session by integrating these essential competencies into the university’s curriculum.

The SEL programme, a unique two-credit elective course at CNLU, is designed to enhance students’ professional skills and career readiness. It covers key areas such as emotional intelligence, stress management, leadership, and teamwork. This innovative initiative represents a significant shift in CNLU’s educational approach, aiming to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical skills required in today’s competitive job market.

Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Prof. Dr. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor of CNLU, said:

This partnership with ISB Online represents a significant leap forward in our commitment to providing holistic education. More than technical or professional knowledge is required in today’s dynamic professional landscape. Our students must also develop strong social and emotional competencies to excel in their careers. This programme aligns with our vision of nurturing future leaders who are empathetic, resilient, and ready to take on the world.

The programme is designed as a customized learning journey, with online courses delivered by experienced faculty members. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world applications to provide a comprehensive learning experience. The primary goal of this initiative is to equip students with the competencies required to excel in the modern legal landscape.

By integrating SEL into the curriculum, CNLU aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, emotionally intelligent, and capable of managing stress effectively. This programme marks a significant step towards providing holistic education beyond traditional academic knowledge. Through this initiative, ISB Online and CNLU are committed to fostering future empathetic, resilient leaders equipped with essential social and emotional skills. This aligns with their vision of nurturing well-rounded professionals ready for global challenges.

Sujatha Kumaraswamy, Executive Director of Executive Education and Digital Learning at ISB, commented on the partnership, stating:

The partnership with CNLU has the potential to enhance and enrich the future of legal education. This pioneering programme by ISB Online sets a new benchmark in legal education, equipping students with critical skills in emotional intelligence and social awareness. Our approach enriches the traditional curriculum by integrating valuable multi-disciplinary knowledge, ultimately preparing students to navigate the complexities of their future careers and emerge as well-rounded professionals.

The SEL course at CNLU signifies a progressive shift in educational approaches, setting a new standard for legal education in India. By integrating SEL into its curriculum, CNLU is demonstrating its commitment to producing graduates who are not just academically competent but also emotionally intelligent leaders capable of making significant contributions to society. This initiative is expected to have a profound impact on students’ personal and professional development, equipping them with the tools to manage stress, lead effectively, work well in teams, and navigate complex emotional landscapes.
