Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), the leading provider of de-escalation and crisis prevention training programmes for workplaces worldwide, has recently announced the launch of Reframing Behavior, its new groundbreaking, subscription-based, schoolwide training programme that unpacks the latest neuroscience to help all educators build a more positive, supportive learning environment and prevent disruptive classroom behaviour. This cutting-edge curriculum is designed to support educators in managing their own emotions and understanding how the nervous system reacts to stress while helping children go from stress reactions to the best learning states.

Reframing Behavior is designed to teach school staff how to understand the origins of Behavior — the “why”— through a neuroscience lens. Hence, they are better able to help students navigate out of the fight, flight or freeze mode they often find themselves in when experiencing stressors, conflict or moments that trigger trauma. Its Key elements include:

  • Learning how neuroscience connects to Behavior and mental health
  • Practicing emotional regulation and self-awareness
  • Strategies to assume stress behaviour first and use positive language
  • Techniques to build strong, supportive relationships with students

Speaking about the development, Susan Driscoll, President of CPI, said:

Our schools are in the midst of a mental health crisis, which has led to an uptick in disruptive Behavior in classrooms and an alarming increase in teacher turnover. Reframing Behavior addresses these issues by providing educators with actionable skills and knowledge to help improve their well-being and provide more positive support for students.

Reframing Behavior, a programme developed in collaboration with Connie Persike, M.S., CCC/SLP, educational consultant and owner of Supportable Solutions, and Guy Stephens, Founder of the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint, brings their extensive experience and unwavering commitment to a shared mission. Their expertise has been pivotal in shaping a program that not only addresses immediate challenges, but also sets the stage for lasting positive change in schools.

Guy Stephens, Founder of the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint, added:

Reframing Behavior brings neuroscience to our schools, helping us understand Behavior through the lens of our brain and nervous system. This proactive programme focuses on proper crisis prevention, moving us toward a future where restraint or seclusion is no longer necessary. A better understanding of behaviour—our own and the children we serve—can transform school culture and create better outcomes for students, teachers, and staff.

The programme is available to schools nationwide as an affordable, subscription-based service with tiered pricing based on school size. This ensures that the programme’s benefits are accessible to all, regardless of the school’s financial capacity. Implementation is easy, as the content is designed for both professional learning communities (PLCs) and professional development for educators and staff. The annual subscription includes facilitator training, access to an online course, a learning library, and habit development activities. Easy, online access to content for all staff ensures that the training is easily accessible while allowing for new training material to be added and accessed anywhere, anytime.

Crisis Prevention Institute is dedicated to changing behaviours and reducing conflict for everyone’s care, welfare, safety, and security. The company believes the power of empathy, meaningful connections, personal safety, and security are the antidotes to fear and anxiety. Since 1980, the platform has helped train more than 17 million people within service-oriented industries, including education, health care, behavioural health, long-term care, human services, security, corporate, and retail. CPI teaches professionals the skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to crises in the workplace. With tiered levels of training, it offers customizable solutions that fit every role and risk level to foster organization-wide safety and well-being.
