Social Studies apps personalize learning by allowing students to go through the content at their own pace, explore areas that interest them, and practice recalling facts to strengthen their knowledge. Studying Social Studies with such interesting and engaging apps helps students enhance their learning of the subject and have fun at the same time.

  • Google Earth: Explore the planet with this app. It has integrated Google Maps Street View that allows you to explore the world at street level. You can browse layers including roads, borders, places, photos and more. Its Earth Gallery offers exciting maps such as real-time earthquakes, planes in flight, hiking trails, city tours, and more. The new Tour Guide allows you to easily discover exciting new places to explore and offers a selection of virtual tours from around the globe.

    The new 3D imagery lets you explore the complete 3D recreations of select cities, including San Francisco, Boston, Rome and others. You can easily navigate with your fingers, to move the globe, rotate to zoom in and out, rotate your viewpoint and tilt your view. Google Earth is available for Desktop, Web and Mobile Android and iOS devices.

  • Back in Time: Is a visually stunning e-textbook app, appropriate for kids aged 10 and up, that takes students on a voyage of exploration through the history of the universe, earth, life and civilization. It lets you experience a journey through time where each event is documented with social and historical context, several images, an illustrative timeline and rare interesting facts. It provides an interesting and immersive learning experience through custom made animations that bring the events to life. The app has won several awards, including one from American Photo Magazine as one of the 10 Best Photo E-Books of 2012.
  • Stack the Countries: This app makes learning about the world fun. You can watch the countries actually come to life in this colorful and dynamic game. It helps you learn facts about 193 countries, including their capitals, landmarks, major cities, continents, border countries, languages, flags and country shapes in the context of a fun game with various levels. You need to drag the countries and pile them on top of each other, once piled up to the line, the game level is won and the next level comes up. You earn a random country for every successfully completed level. All of your countries appear on your own personalized maps of the continents. It also provides 193 country flashcards and colorful interactive maps of the continents which you can use to brush up on your world geography before or use as a handy reference tool. 
  • Britannica Kids Apps: Are launched by Encyclopedia Britannica to provide great content in a friendly and educational presentation. These apps are packed full of exciting, interesting, educational facts, games, puzzles, videos and photos and have been specifically designed to help children with homework, projects and exams and will also keep them engaged and entertained for hours. This educational apps series is appropriate for children aged 8 and up, and contain expert, curriculum-based content and are completely interactive and intuitive to use.   • Today in History: Is a cognitive app and widget that displays the most important historical events and birthdays of the selected day to give account of that day in context of a particular timeline. A list of similar words is also provided which allow you to know more about the historical value of the day. The app gives information from 100,000 events in a year which include birthdays, holidays and death anniversaries. You can keep its widget on your desktop or mobile device to everyday read what happened on that day.

The app is based on Pearson’s Brief Review of Global History and Geography, it helps high school students expand their understanding of world history, sharpen their social studies skills, and improve their performance on tests.
