Numerade, a generative AI online learning platform that drives deep learning and understanding in STEM education, has recently launched Ace Images, a new feature that produces original AI-generated images alongside written responses. The newly introduced feature is accessed through Numerade’s generative AI tutor, Ace, which began earlier this year and can learn students’ unique study patterns through questions asked.

Through Ace Images, the AI tutor can now generate original visual aids like diagrams, graphics, models, and charts for specific physics and math problems. Furthermore, the platform can summarize and interact with photos and files of handwritten notes, lecture slides, and more. Numerade can better serve students in their preferred learning modality and deepen their understanding of complex STEM concepts with these new features, resulting in more positive learning outcomes.

Generative AI has significantly impacted education, providing opportunities to drive positive learning outcomes. Student retention on Numerade has increased by 33% since the introduction of Ace, showing that students are spending time receiving step-by-step guidance and support from the AI tutor.

Talking about the platform, Co-founder & CEO of Numerade, Nhon Ma, said:

Numerade was born out of a personal mission to make education accessible for all, no matter their socioeconomic status. AI — and, more recently, large language models — has allowed us to make learning more attainable and enrich students’ learning experiences by letting them interact and connect directly with the material. This is only the beginning of what we can do with this technology.

With Ace Images, Numerade is taking it a step further. According to studies, 65% of the general population is visual learners, retaining 80% of what they see, but only 20% and 10% of what they read and hear. Numerade’s AI tutor now provides a real-life, multi-sensory learning environment where students communicate in various organic channels by allowing students to receive both text and image responses using Ace Images’ unique multimodal approach.

Accuracy was of the utmost importance when developing Ace Images, especially given the challenging task of creating visual content corresponding to AI-generated responses. AI image techniques excel at creative tasks such as character creation and environment design but need help to create images that require high contextual accuracy, such as STEM subjects. Numerade’s method, on the other hand, has reduced error rates to 10% by developing a hybrid system of LLMs, deterministic functions, and proprietary data. The learning tool is integrated into the existing Ace product and is now available to all Numerade customers, initially focusing on physics and maths before expanding to other subjects.

Numerade is a Los Angeles-based venture-backed, high-growth education technology startup. The company is solely dedicated to producing exceptional video and interactive content experiences for education, making the knowledge and skills of world-class educators widely available and affordable to student audiences of all backgrounds. The online platform aims to close the educational opportunity gap by democratizing access to exceptional educators and their content. It exists to deliver incredible learning experiences through video to all of the students. It adds hundreds of videos every day, each one carefully crafted to assist an individual in gaining a deeper understanding.
