Teachers in Uttar Pradesh government schools are learning the SWOT analysis technique. This technique identifies Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats to construct a strategic plan for the effective implementation of career guidance programmes such as ‘Pankh’ in schools.
Under the guidance of the secondary education department and in collaboration with UNICEF, a comprehensive training programme is underway. The goal is to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to guide students in choosing the right career path based on their interests and abilities, and to actively involve parents in this crucial process. These master trainers will play a pivotal role in helping 9 lakh children make informed career decisions.
Addressing the trainees, additional state project director, secondary education, Vishnu Kant Pandey, said:
The training will help students choose the right career and achieve their goals. Teachers must keep updating themselves with innovations in the profession and in their subjects to provide better teaching and guidance to students.
During the workshop, Sagar Anand, a career guidance expert, provided detailed information about the career counselling process. At the same time, Soma Chaudhary, Rashmi Jha, and other Vikramshila Sanstha trainers discussed essential topics such as career hubs, career clubs, psychometric tests, and parent-teacher meetings.
Adding that new dimensions are emerging every day in the field of career guidance, the Chief Executive of UNICEF, UP, Amit Mehrotra, said:
In such a situation, it is not possible for a single person or institution to have the necessary information about all fields. Teachers should come together to create a platform where they update themselves from time to time and help children select the best choice.
Throughout the initiative, teachers were urged to establish professional hubs and clubs in schools, organize parent-teacher meetings, job fairs, and dialogue sessions with school specialists, and visit industrial, corporate, and educational facilities to gather information about employment alternatives via the Pankh site, scholarships, examinations, and colleges.
