The change in higher education is difficult not only because of the rigidness of the authorities but due to the consequences attached with the fear of the failures in the sector. This is one crucial part of education and risks involved are at the higher side if experimented. With so many things to be considered, we observed few technology trends that are going to be there in the near future.

Mentioned below are 3 top technology trends that are going to transform the higher education. Check them out!

1. Mobile Learning/BYOD

This is going to be an essential thing on board. Students spend most of their time on their mobiles so it is important that they get the accessibility of their learning course on their mobiles. Also, this way students not only are able to access course material on the go, but they can also create content anywhere to submit to instructors.  We already have apps that allow learners to post questions/comments in real time during class which the instructor can use to gather feedback, modify instruction, and gauge student understanding.  Faculty and students can produce media to provide immersive tours of remote venues, field locations, personal experiences, etc. elevating how course content is received and created.

Also check the mobile learning trends to know more.

2. Adaptive Learning Technologies

An extension of personalized learning movement, adaptive learning technologies refers to the tech that monitors student progress and allows for modification of instruction at any time. Now this is a game changes as it enables the educator to make sure that the students are learning ion their pace and are getting the proper understanding of the subject matter. For instance, if you have enrolled in a language course and you find it difficult the system would assign exercises that would help you get a clear picture and better understanding of the subject matter. And all of this would happen automatically without the instructor having to change anything once the course has launched.

This basically is a hand-in-hand walk between personalized and machine learning to facilitate the students with the best learning experience. Also, for educators they can get a clear picture of what students struggle with and respond accordingly— reaching out to individual students or perhaps changing the design or delivery of content.  Ultimately adaptive learning tech can provide a consistent and constant stream of feedback that can continually improve instruction.

Follow up with these great use cases of adaptive learning in HigherEd to understand it better.

3. IoT

“In the next five years, technology will disrupt the learning experience in many ways. Students will consume knowledge and learning in new ways, classrooms and teachers will be better equipped for education of students, and the learning experience will continue to become more virtual.” – Citrix 2020 Technology Landscape

This Citrix research is the best resource that can explain the potential of this new technology of IoT and the capability of the same in higher education. Below are some key takeaways from the post.

– The goal to use IoT is to link together all of the classroom elements: devices, projectors, screens, cameras, microphones, lecture capture systems, learning management systems, etc….

– Out of that linkage one can create workflows that allow instructors to simply walk into a classroom and teach the content they have prepared for the day. In the background you can have all of the classroom elements working together to support the presenting and capturing of the classroom content, which can then be provided to students in a synchronous or asynchronous fashion (whatever the college/university feels is most appropriate).

-The goal is to do this simply, allowing IT and instructors to define in advance their classroom preferences and to then automate the rest. Further, simplifying making classroom content easily accessible to students, when and where they need it.

Well, there are some other technologies as well like the 3D Printing, Wearable Gadgets, Data Analytics which are going to revolutionize the higher education but as of now we can predict the above mentioned technologies transforming the higher education.

What’s your take on this? Which technology trends you see transforming the higher education?
