On September 28, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and UNICEF unveiled ‘Criiio 4 Good,’ a new online life skills learning programme designed to encourage gender equality among boys and girls. Criiio celebrates the many ways cricket is played around the world, be it in schools, stadiums, streets, beaches, parks or anywhere, and encourages equal participation for young girls and boys.

The initiative was launched with the Indian Ministry of Education, Government of India and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Ahmedabad.

India women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared the initial CRIIIO 4 GOOD learning modules with more than a thousand schoolchildren at the stadium. The programmes are really interesting and use cricket’s ability to discuss gender equity and important life skills in a lighthearted and engaging approach with both boys and girls.

Speaking at the event, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education of India, highlighted how the program is aligned with NEP 2020’s focus on gender equality and the same opportunities as a fundamental principle.

He added, “Through CRIIIO 4 GOOD, the power of sports and the popularity of cricket can be used as a medium to empower the girl child and spread awareness about gender equity.”

He also mentioned how the country witnessed history in the making with the passage of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and bringing India to the forefront of women-led development.

There will be eight sport-for-development modules in the introductory programme. They will have a gender equity theme to raise awareness of the problem and highlight the significance of giving all Indian boys and girls equal chances. These programs will be told through the game of cricket.

The Criiio 4 Good project will feature eight animated films that are created utilising cutting-edge animation techniques and feature cricketing instances. Each film focuses on one particular life skill—leadership, problem-solving, confidence, decision-making, negotiation, empathy, teamwork, and goal-setting.

About: CRIIIO 4 GOOD

‘CRIIIO 4 GOOD’ is a series of 8 cricket-based animation films that promote gender parity, equip girls with life skills and encourage their participation in sports. Using the passion and popularity of cricket among young audiences, UNICEF and ICC have launched the program to inspire children and youth to acquire critical life skills and appreciate the significance of gender parity. The programme can be accessed free of cost in three languages: English, Hindi and Gujarati.

The eight modules focus on one theme each, focusing on —leadership, problem-solving, confidence, decision-making, negotiation, empathy, teamwork, and goal-setting. The films are free of cost and are available on the official website. These films have been curated with in-depth research into local nuances that make them real and relatable for the audiences.
