Ever got fascinated with Pixar’s definitely loved characters?
What if you got a chance to learn from Pixar’s best? Won’t you love learning math, science, engineering, art from Pixar filmmakers along with creating movie magic?
With Pixar In A Box, students will get to learn their subjects in a fun, engaging & creative manner. In collaboration with the Khan Academy, a non-profit educational organization that provides free world class education for anyone anywhere; Pixar Animation Studios is all set to stretch out and help redefine the ways of learning with this brand new technique of teaching that will definitely be loved by learners & educators.
The unique platform is now live on KhanAcademy.org, providing specialized content along with an insight into how Pixar’s movies are made. The resources have been especially designed for students in middle and high school but don’t restrict any age group to experience the Pixar’s magic. Students are given the opportunity to discover how the academic concepts they learn in school enable Pixar filmmakers to create worlds, animate characters and tell stories through animation.
With Pixar in box students can actually learn the entire concepts that are questioned on their use in practicality!
Students tend to lose interest in academic concepts when they can’t relate then to the thing they experience or care about. Now students will understand the important concepts as they solve their way through Pixar’s animated characters as such mentioned below:
How linear and cubic interpolation are used to animate characters.
How trigonometry is used to create the worlds in which Pixar stories take place.
How simultaneous equations are used to paint all of Pixar’s images.
How parabolas are used to model environments, like the forest in Brave.
How combinatorics are used to create crowds, like the swarm of robots in WALL-E.
How weighted averages are used to create characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody.
For example:
The Pixar In A Box lessons start with a technical problem that animators face and work into the math from there. In each video a real Pixar animator lays out the technical problem, and then students get to experiment with interactive elements to better understand the problem. Gradually the video works towards a more explicit explanation of the math involved, and by the end the student is calculating to solve the actual problems faced at Pixar.
At the launching event of Pixar In A Box on August 27, Pixar president and Sal khan, Founder of the khan Academy shared their though behind this collaboration:
“ By working with Khan Academy on Pixar in a Box, we hope to encourage the excitement of learning and creative thinking for middle and high school students and to provide the tools to do it,” said Pixar President Ed Catmull.
“Our mission at Khan Academy is a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere,” said founder Sal Khan. Sparking student interest in math and other academic fields is a key part of that, and we’re delighted to collaborate with Pixar to achieve this goal. Pixar in a Box gives students a new way to engage with key academic concepts and see how creative these concepts can be.“
With this amazing initiative students can now learn all the basic concepts like math & see then being utilized in a creative manner.
